Natural Disaster Hits California

The United States forest service said the fire, started in Tuolumne County that eventually spread to Yosemite, Pine Mountain Lake, and Walibi city, on Wednesday, August 28,2013 reached 23 percent containment and would likely not reach full containment until at least September 102013.   Officials plan to shut down the second of four access routes into the park.  With this closure, fire crews will be allowed to build containment lines along the road before the fire approaches.
This so- called “Rimfire” burned through 293 square miles destroyed 111 structures, and threatened water supply, hydrodetric power, and giant Sequoias.
The smoky haze has triggered emergency air quality warnings for more than 100 miles away in Nevada.  In Reno and Carson City, the school children were kept indoors for the second time in a week.  Officials from Washoe County health district declare unhealthy conditions could deteriorate to “very unhealthy” conditions depending on wind direction.
If you have respiratory problems, heart disease, if you are elderly, or if you are a child you should avoid prolonged or heavy exposure.  Everyone else should limit or prevent long exposures of the air.  Also, if you smell smoke and feel like it is affecting you take precautions such as: staying indoors, windows and doors closed, and the air conditioner on.  Lastly, drink plenty of fluids.
Keep the West in your thoughts in hopes that they will all stay healthy from this natural disaster.    If you would like to read more you can go to www.usatoday.com or www.latimes.com.
