1.
Finding Nemo-
A young clownfish, Nemo, is
captured by a scuba diver and taken to a dentist office, where he is put in an
aquarium. His dad then sets out on
a journey to find him. Along the way, he meets several fish, sea turtles, and
even some vegetarian sharks. In the end, Nemo and his father reunite, and they
each discover how much they love each other. As a child, I can remember
watching this movie over and over again. This one was one my favorites because
I love the ocean and all the animals in it.
2.
Monsters Inc.-
Sulley and Mike Wazowski are the top scare
team at Monsters Inc., a company run by monsters that produces energy through
scaring children. During one of their routine scares, a child escapes and
enters into the monster world, which is very dangerous for both the child and
the monsters. Sulley and Mike eventually build a relationship with the child
they named “Boo”, and realize she is not as dangerous as she seems. This was
another one of my favorite movies growing up. I can remember watching this
sitting with my mom on the couch, and her having to hold my hand during the
“scary” parts.
3.
The Little Mermaid-
Ariel is tired of being the king’s
daughter, and she is tired of being a mermaid. She wants so bad to be freed
from her responsibilities, and most of all, she wants to be human. She meets
Ursula, an evil sea witch, and trades her beautiful voice in exchange for
turning Ariel into a human. Ariel meets a boy, but she can’t talk to him. Long
story short, Ariel gets her voice back with the help of her father, and she and
the boy marry and she becomes a human for good. While watching this movie, I
can remember always being envious of Ariel’s long, flowing tresses. I also
loved how she lived in the ocean, and always found things to do.
4.
Toy Story-
Sherriff Woody has always been Andy’s
favorite toy. Until one day, Andy gets a new toy- Buzz Lightyear. Woody becomes
jealous of all the attention given to Buzz, and tries to get rid of him. They
end up both getting lost, and they have to become friends in order to get back
home to Andy. I remember watching this and not liking Buzz because it was “all
about him”, and Woody was left out. Buzz was the new toy, and everyone got so
caught up with him that they forgot about their old friend Woody. In the end, I realized it was just the way buzz was made, and I liked
him after all.
5.
Aladdin-
Aladdin is a street rat who meets Princess
Jasmine by accident. They fall in love, but Aladdin is thrown in jail by the
evil Jafar, who plans to take over the kingdom. Aladdin sets out on a journey
with his faithful monkey Abu to find the lamp Jafar needs to aid him in ruling.
The lamp can only be found by a “diamond in the rough”, and Aladdin fits this
description. However, the lamp doesn’t help Aladdin because Jasmine is required
by law to marry a prince. When I watched this movie, my favorite part was when
Aladdin posed as Prince Ali. I liked this part because there was a super catchy
song that went with the street parade, and Aladdin got to ride on an elephant.
6.
Tarzan-
Tarzan is an orphaned child who was raised
by gorillas. He has always known them as his family, until an expedition team
lands where they live. Tarzan ends up saving one of the team members, Jane, and
he discovers that he is actually a human and not a gorilla. He then has to
decide which family he belongs with, and if he wants to stay with his gorilla
family or have a new one with Jane. This was another one of the movies I
watched all the time. Although the beginning was sad, I really liked how the
gorillas took Tarzan in and raised him as one of their own. This showed me that
family can be anywhere, and I really liked that.
7.
Lilo and Stitch-
Experiment #626 has escaped, and come to
earth. A small Hawaiian girl, Lilo, finds it and names it Stitch. Lilo must
teach Stitch the ways of Earth, including proper behavior and manners. They
form a strong bond, and Lilo helps Stitch grasp the meaning of family. This
movie was always one of my favorites because there was a recurring family
theme, and that was important to the characters. Lilo took Stitch in, and she
loved him and taught him right from wrong.
8.
101 Dalmatians-
Two Dalmatians have a litter of puppies,
which are wanted by the evil Cruella De Vil. Cruella sends two thieves out to
take them, and many other Dalmatian puppies, so she can make a fur coat. The
parents of these puppies, as well as their owners, must find their children and
free the other puppies before Cruella gets to them and it is too late. This
move was always good, because I would notice something new every time I watched
it. There was always a new puppy, or something else funny the burglars
did.
9.
Hercules-
Hercules is the son of the god Zeus. He is
turned into a half-god half-mortal by the evil Hades, who plans to overthrow
Zeus. Hercules learns that he is a hero, but the only way he can return to
Olympus is by proving himself as a real hero. He fights off monsters, the Titans,
and even Hades, but his sacrifice to his love Meg makes him the true hero. When
I watched this movie, the scariest thing was when Hades got angry. His hair
would turn red, and he would yell. Other than that, the movie always kept me wondering
what was going to happen next.
10. The Emperor’s New Groove-
Emperor Kuzco is a self centered ruler, who
plans to wipe out a small village to build a water park for his birthday. Along
the way, his former administrator, whom he fired, is now trying to take over
the thrown with the help of her right hand man. An attempted assassination of
Kuzco leads to him instead being turned into a llama. He ends up living with
Pacha, who lives in the village Kuzco was planning to destroy. Pacha finds out
his true identity, and agrees to help Kuzco regain his thrown, but only if he
moves his water park somewhere else.
I loved this movie because even though Kuzco was arrogant, he was so
funny and amusing. I remember thinking that his big earrings were actually his
ears, and being confused as to why his ears were circular. I also remember how
big his advisor’s eyes were, and that she was really scary.
