Get off Social Media:
You may be tempted to open up
Twitter in another tab while your teacher is giving instruction, but pay
attention. You may think you can multi-task and check your notifications while
your teacher is talking, but it can happen in the blink of an eye. You see
something that catches your eye, promise yourself that you’re going to pay
attention and then when you look back up, your teacher has moved on and you’ve
missed the most important part of the lesson.
Stay Away From Netflix:
Not only does it have the potential
to slow down everyone else’s Internet connection, it also is an even bigger
distraction than social media. There is no way to watch your favorite show and
listen to your teacher’s instruction at the same time. Once you’re engaged in
your show, caring about school can be hard. You’ll have plenty of time to catch
up on Netflix at home. If you don’t have Internet at home, there are various
places where you can connect to Wi-Fi for free.
Learn to Type Faster:
Websites like typeracer.com and
10fastfingers.com can help you type with ease. Being able to type with speed
and confidence can help you take notes as your teacher says them. When your
typing flows, you can focus less on figuring out where your keys are and focus
more on the content of the course. If you really can’t stand the idea of
practicing your typing, the Mac Books come pre-installed with a voice recorder,
which would allow you to record your teacher and take notes on your own time.
Learn Basic Computer Knowledge:
Don’t be that guy who takes ten
minutes to bookmark a page or get to a website. You’re holding up instruction
time and your classmate’s learning. It only takes about 5 minutes and a Google
search to figure out any basic information you may need to know.
Keep it Charged!:
Make sure you charge your computer
at night! You can’t do anything with a dead laptop. While all your classes may
not utilize your laptops, you could still fall behind with a dead laptop. If
you can’t remember to charge your laptop over night, make sure you bring your
charger so you can charge your laptop if you need to.
