Retiring Teachers

Several South-Doyle teachers are retiring from long careers at the end of this year.

Kim Buchanan is a University of Tennessee graduate and teaches pre-calculus at South-Doyle High School. Before teaching at South-Doyle, she taught at Farragut for several years, with a total of 32 years as a teacher. Buchanan was studying to become a doctor before settling on teaching. When asked what she enjoyed most about teaching, she replied that it was “knowing I had helped prepare kids to succeed in life.” Her favorite moments in class were the funny moments in class with students, which including her singing Drop it Like it’s Hot and falling into a trashcan. The things she’ll miss most about teaching are her colleagues, students, and the impact she had on children’s futures.

Stephen Loope has been teaching for 29 years. After taking some advice from friends, he got his education degrees and went on to teach AP English. Mr. Loope enjoys teaching kids and seeing the light bulb come on when they finally understand. When asked what his favorite thing about South-Doyle was, he replied, “Ill miss the students and teachers because they really are one big family.”
