Young life has
gradually become a significant influence on the South-Doyle High School student
body. People from each grade attend Young Life and many of them plan on
becoming leaders for the club after they graduate. This Club teaches Christian
values and tries to break down the Bible into something much more simple and
understandable. Each local area has a
committee of young adults who are separated into smaller ‘teams’ assigned to
each school within that area.
“It’s
basically a group of college kids that mentor high school kids and help them to
get through their year while showing them God and who he is.” says senior,
Lauren Barlow.
Club
is held every Thursday evening at a leaders house. These meetings incorporate singing,
dancing, performing skits, studying the Bible and mingling with people you
might not see everyday. People from all walks of life attend Young life and
there are no restrictions on which students can join.
One
of the main purposes of Young Life is to make every single attendee feel
accepted and important.
“We
see that kids feel down and out or alone and we just want them to know that they
have something to live for,” says South-Doyle leader, Marion Kirkpatrick.
According
to South-Doyle students, they have accomplished this goal and have improved the
lives of teenagers just by being there for them.
“It
will change your life and that’s the truth.” says junior, Alyssa Winegar.
