As spring semester draws to an end,
the idea of summer jobs creeps closer and closer to the front of students’
minds. Most high school students, like
me, have to get a summer job. Some
people do not know where to apply either.
Here are some options that are close:
· Restaurant- You could be a host, server,
busboy, or dishwasher. These are great
jobs that are for teenagers. Some places may not accept you because of your age;
it really depends on the restaurant. The good news is that there are a lot of
restaurants close by. For example:
Little Tokyo, Gondolier, Chop House, TGI Fridays, Ye Old Steak House, Willies,
Sweet Peas, Calhoun’s, and many more. Many restaurants will give you a free
meal while you are working.
· Fast
Food- You could be
up at the register or back preparing food.
There are several fast food places in, South Knoxville, for example;
McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Sonic, Chick-fil-a, etc. A great note to
keep in mind is that many fast food places give scholarships. Some fast food places will give you a
discount or a free meal when you are working.
· Grocery
Store- You could
run the register, stock shelves, or bag the groceries. This is a very common first job, especially
for students. This is also an easy job
to locate because there are at least two grocery stores close to South
Doyle. This can also include department
stores. This can benefit yourself and your family because you can get discounts
in the store’s brand.
Misc.- This includes the Knoxville Zoo, Movie
Theater, small businesses, and other various jobs such as babysitting, dog sitting,
yard work, etc. The zoo could hire you to run the ice cream stand or the
restaurants. Some examples are: GameStop, Sally’s Beauty Salon, the Dollar
Tree, and more like that.
