Ask Lucy and Lauren

Dear Lucy,

I get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow and I’m really scared because I’ve never had any kind of surgery. What if I don’t wake up from the anesthesia? Or what if I get dry sockets? What am I supposed to eat? HELP!

                                                                        ~Malone

Dear Malone,

Getting your wisdom teeth out can be a scary thought but it’s nothing to stress over. Your doctor does this for a living and will make you as comfortable as possible. You won’t feel a thing while they are taking your teeth out so you don’t have to worry about that but you will wake up. The nurses do a fantastic job of keeping you calm and they are very supportive. Your doctor will tell you ways to avoid dry sockets so just make sure you listen when they tell you. Avoid using straws and drinking soda. Applying pressure to your gums can cause you to pull your stitches out which can be very painful. Also, the acid in soda can irritate your gums. As far as eating goes, stay away from solid foods. Stick to mashed potatoes and applesauce then eventually move onto foods like mac n cheese or ramen noodles! Take it easy for a few days and sleep as much as you can!

I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Dear Lucy,

I am a high school gym teacher and I have an extremely rowdy class that I absolutely cannot control. How can I discipline them without writing every single one of them up?

                                                                        ~Coach Elijah

Dear Coach,

It’s awful that your students don’t respect you. If you really can’t get their attention, then make them run or do push ups. Every time someone back talks to you make them drop and give you 20! If someone doesn’t do what you say make them run two laps. If physical punishment doesn’t work and they don’t catch on then it is time for a write up.

I hope your student’s start listening to you!
                                                                        ~Lucy
