Most people know what Mardi Gras is but a lot of people do not know why it occurs. Mardi Gras is a holiday that is associated with Fat Tuesday, Lent and Ash Wednesday. Each Day is part of the Mardi Gras celebration and is connected with the Catholic religion. Fat Tuesday is also known as the “Last Hurrah” where people are raucous and sometimes rebellious before midnight on Tuesday. The reason it stops on Tuesday at midnight is because Ash Wednesday is the next day where people must start the first day of Lent. Lent is also known as “feast day” where people are able to eat anything they want that full day. The reason they eat all day is because the next 40 days they must fast. During the Lent period, people must give up an important thing they try to live without.  For example, people will give up meat, candy, sodas, movies or something they wont have until after the Easter holiday.
If people participate in lent, why don’t they choose something to give up that will benefit their lives? Giving something up till Easter would be a great chance to get off bad habits. Not having the ability to give up something to become healthy is a popular challenge that people can’t do. Why not use lent to make 100% accomplishable goals they can achieve?
Giving up unhealthy things would be the best bet for people to live healthy and feel better while keeping their promises to Lent. The number one thing is to pick something that will make their body healthier and stronger. Huge things people try to give up are sodas. Sodas have so much sugar in them that are harmful for their bodies and slow down their physical ability. Why not give up carbonated drinks so people’s bodies will be up to par and at their fullest potential. So when participating in Lent, try to give up something that will benefit life and the body. Candy, soda, chips, television, and many more things are great examples.
