Top 5
movies for Halloween!
· Halloween (1978)- The original film scared all audiences,
with the masked murderer stalking his “prey”. The killer escapes from an insane
asylum and returns to his hometown where he stalks a babysitter. The babysitter
is a teenage girl who is a bookworm and very reserved. When this murderer
chases her on Halloween she has to choose between saving herself or the
children. As this title obviously tells, this is a perfect film for the
holiday.
· Friday the 13th (1980)- This 80’s film is about a mother
who seeks revenge on camp counselors because of the death of her son. Jason
Voorhees was her son who drowned while at camp because the counselors were not
paying attention. Years later the counselors and young Voorhees are still a
legend at the camp. Suddenly the counselors start coming up missing, and are
eventually found dead. A murderer is on the loose at the camp, and the
counselors must sleep with one eye open. Who will make it through the night?
· Trick ‘r Treat (2007)- This modern horror flick intertwines 4
different tales that occur on a Halloween night. A high school principal’s
secret life, a reserved college student meets the one for her, a group of teens
pull a mean prank, and an old bus driver meets his match. All these tales have
a horrific twist and karma catches up with these strangers. A nice, spooky film
for Halloween night.
· A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)- This 80’s film stars a young
Johnny Depp, (yes ladies) and Robert Englund. Englund plays Freddy Krueger, who
invades the teens on Elm street’s dreams making them nightmares. Krueger’s
weapon of choice is a glove with sharpened knives for fingers that he created
himself. The twist to this is that if you die in your dream, you’re dead for
real. The teenagers of Elm Street don’t know why Krueger is targeting them, and
why no one believes them. This creepy film will keep you up all Halloween
night.
· Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)- If you aren’t
really up for a horror flick, this Tim Burton film is a cartoon that combines
Halloween and Christmas in a macabre way. In the movie, there are different
towns for each holiday and it focuses on Halloweentown. Jack Skellington is the
King of Halloweentown and discovers Christmas Town. Jack becomes obsessed with
the concept, even though he doesn’t quite understand it. He sends out some
children of Halloweentown to kidnap Santa Clause so he can replace him. Follow
Jack’s scheme on Halloween and get a small taste of Christmas too.
