Gone Eagle Huntin'

Seymour thinks they have a head start on crushing our spirits by displaying “Seymour Eagles” in bold letters across our rock. Little do they know, spray paint can be covered. The vandalism was soon covered later that day. The football game that is being held this Friday is probably the biggest game of the season. With Seymour being the school down the street, the competition is taken to an all new level.
You either have a strong dislike towards Seymour or you tolerate them. Either way, the rivalry is taken to new extremes every year. Regardless of the score South Doyle students have learned whether we win or lose it’s with pride. Our neighbors down the street (Seymour students) don’t always have the nicest things to say but it’s how we react that defines our sportsmanship.
When asked what they think the outcome of the game will be several of the football players had very positive responses. Junior Malik Lundy stated, “We’ll end up on top.” With lots of practice there is no doubt that Lundy will help lead the Cherokees to a victory. This will be Junior Harley Wheeler’s 3rd game starting first string as middle linebacker. When also asked about the outcome of the game he answered with enthusiasm, “Of course, I know we’re going to win.” Wheeler seemed to be filled with several emotions about Friday’s game. “I’m focused mentally and physically prepared,” he said with excitement and confidence. Junior Kerrie Heptinstall is a cheerleader for the Cherokees. She says “Being a cheerleader is always exciting because it gives us a chance to get the crowd pumped. We’re ready to beat those Eagles!”
I also asked the boys what makes the Seymour game more exciting then the other season games? Harley’s answer was quit interesting. “When we play Seymour it’s a chance for us to show up our friends that we’ve played against for years.” Lundy’s answer was also very intriguing. “We’ve got get that win because if we don’t Seymour will own Chapman Highway. That’s our territory and we need to have ownership!”
This Friday night’s game is no doubt going to be an exciting game. Come out and watch our biggest game of the season! Don’t forget to cheer for your fellow classmates #2 Malik Lundy and #15 Harley Wheeler!
