This past week, Tennessee announced
a game scheduled for September 10, 2016, against Virginia Tech that will be
held at Bristol Motor Speedway. The main goal of the game is to break the
record of attendance for a single college football game. Plans have already
been made to bring in extra seating to allow hardcore fans to get even closer
to the SEC-ACC matchup. With the additional seating, the total attendance is
estimated to be around 150,000.
Personally,
I think this is a huge step that will eventually lead to bigger and better
college football stadiums. Tennessee already owns one of the largest stadiums
in the country, and Vol fans will surely flock to Bristol to see a historic
game of college football.
Also, I can
see that this game will inspire all colleges over the country to begin to build
more seats into their stadiums. I would say almost every major station on air
would either have a reporter at the game or carry the game. The media attention will be overwhelming, and
I think colleges will notice this. The debate of whether watching a game at
home or seeing it live in person has already become a question facing fans, and
adding to the total seating size may persuade fans to attend games regularly.
Overall, I cannot
wait to see the “Battle of Bristol.” The hype has already begun to build and I
cannot imagine how the environment of the stadium will be when it is time for
kickoff. Watching the Vols take on the Hokies in front of roughly of 150,00
fans will be a vast amount of fun to watch.
