Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer
awareness month. This month is dedicated to raise awareness and help support
cure of the disease. While many people are aware of this life threating disease,
not many remember the steps it takes to detecting it. Many women do not bother
to go for yearly checks when in reality; those checks could save their life.
Every
year the Susan G. Komen foundation holds a race for the cure that helps raise
money for the cause. This year the race for the cure is on Saturday October 26th.
There are several other foundations that support breast cancer awareness
besides Susan Komen. Several high schools in the area hold football games to
support breast cancer awareness. These special games are most commonly “Pink
Outs” where the whole team and people in the community wear pink to show their
support.
Women
are diagnosed with breast cancer everyday. There are several ways to become
involved and show your support. Encourage your loved ones to have a mammogram
and go for a doctor’s appointment if they have any concerns at all. Wear your
pink this month and support all those who have breast cancer awareness!
