Uden Case

You never wonder about the dirty secrets that may lurk in your neighbor’s past from the fear of finding out, but what happens when the secret is deadlier than you thought? The Uden couple’s secret had been buried for almost 30 years before being discovered by the police. Neighbors and friends were shell-shocked when they caught wind of the news.

“They were good people; we’ve known them for about 12 years now. They’re the kind of neighbors you leaned over the fence and talked about your chickens with,” Allen Bishop told a CNN affiliate KSPR in a recent interview. “They were just the old neighbors next door.”

Alice Uden formerly know as Alice Holtz, 74, had been married once before and it was short-lived from the fact that she murdered her former husband in cold blood. During the time of 1974-1975 Alice was married to Ronald Holtz for a few months before shooting her former sleeping husband and dumping his body down a mineshaft. That August the mineshaft was evacuated and investigators found Holtz’s body below ground. A witness from the Laramie County authorities claims Alice confessed to the crime last week.

Gerald Uden murdered his former wife, Virginia Uden, and her two kids Richard, 12, and Reagan, 10, under the false pretense of a bird-hunting trip in 1980. Afterwards he hid the bodies from discovery. Gerald confessed last week to a criminal affidavit in Fremont County.

How the couple met or whether or not the cases are connected has yet to be determined. The two Udens were arrested early this week in Christian County, Missouri. They are staying in jail as they await their trials in Wyoming where the killings took place.
