Dear Mr. Hensley,
My
freshman year walking through the doors of South Doyle High School for the
first time was probably one of the most terrifying moments I’ve experienced so
far and I remember I was so nervous that I couldn’t focus on where I was going
or focus on my sense of direction. I got lost as soon as I got upstairs and saw
all of my fellow students running around the halls like a swarm of bees. Ms.
Geyer saw me and let me tell you she scared me to the core. I asked her quietly
where your room was and she huffed and pointed to the room next to hers. I
thanked her and quickly ran into your room hoping to find a seat before I
embarrassed myself anymore than I already had that morning. I saw some of my
friends and sat with them and talked about summer and all the things we were
excited for. You came in and you were funny and you made us all settle into a
comfortable silence while you told us about all the procedures and schedules
for the day. I had you for English and you’re honest to God one of the best
teachers I’ve ever had. You made everything so simple for our lessons and they
were always fun. Romeo and Juliet was one of my favorite parts of your class
because you taught us how to “sword fight” with paper swords which just turned
out hilarious in the end. You’re class was great and I thank you for that, but
this letter is meant more to thank you for reminding me of my passion for
writing. You introduced me to Geyer and convinced her to let me into her class
because you had faith in me that I could handle it. Your encouragements and
your pushing improved my writing a significant amount. I want to thank you for
introducing me to a class that has helped shaped me as a person. I want to
thank you for helping meet some of my best friends that mean the world to me. I
want to thank you for having faith in my writing skills when most of the time I
didn’t. I want to thank you for giving me a gift that I could never repay you
for. Truly thank you, Mr. Hensley.
Sincerely,
Briana Griffin
I won't lie to you . . .my old eyes are a little watery right now. You are an absolute sweetheart & it is students like you that make teaching the best job on the planet, so thank you.
