Debunking IOS 8

 “Debunking IOS 8”
Briana Griffin
There have been rumors about Apple’s new update IOS 8 have been flying around the school and twitter. With the release on Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2014) the gossip and excitement over the new program has been put to rest. First things first - no this isn’t the beginning of an Iggy Azalea song – here’s what was said on the internet and whether or not its on the update.
The update was said to make it able to put a password on your message and photo apps, but that is a false feature! There is no password protection but there are ways to now hide photos and videos from the photo stream. Siri is able to now identify songs and tell you the name and artist after a few seconds. Quick reply in the drop down menu is not only helpful, but quicker too when you’re busy. You are able to now leave a group message when you no longer want to be a part of it and can put certain people on ‘Do Not Disturb.’ The keyboard does now have the prediction feature (which you are able to turn off by holding down the emoji icon).
Another really awesome update is to the camera app. The iPhone 5 has an awesome camera that is great for adjusting exposure, but sometimes it isn’t just right. Well now you can adjust it yourself before you take your photo. Battery life has always been a problem with any smart phone ever and it always sucked because you never knew what app was draining it the most. With the new IOS update it determines which apps taken the biggest toll on your battery life from the worst to the least.
When you’re texting now you can go to the upper right corner and click ‘Details’ and it will show you all of the attachments in the conversation. The Spotlight search just got that much more powerful because it will show you snippets of Wikipedia articles, suggested websites and content from the iTunes and App Stores. As long as your Apple device is plugged up you can now use the feature “Hey, Siri” which will automatically pull up Siri for your use. There’s also a new feature that helps save battery life called Grayscale Mode, which just means it grays out everything to conserve energy.
Possibly the most important app the IOS 8 update has added to all the IOS devices is the Medical ID. You can save your weight, sex, birthday, blood type, allergies and medications you’re on and many other health features. This app could possibly save your life with the information it holds inside of an emergency.
