For seniors, this
time of year is stressful because of college application and scholarship
deadlines. To stay on top of classes, get your applications done and manage
your stress here are some helpful tips!
1. Time Management: Time management plays an enormous
role in keeping your stress level low. You have to set aside enough time to
make sure you accomplish everything you need. Managing time is more difficult
if you play a sport or have a job while taking on school and college
applications. The best way to manage your time is keep an agenda. In an agenda,
you can write down homework assignments for each class when they are assigned
and when they are due. At the end of the school day, look at your agenda and
see what assignments are due soonest and start on those. Make a list of what
you have to do outside of schoolwork for the day, then set aside time for each
activity in between homework assignments. For seniors, there is also the stress
of college applications and scholarships. With the new tribe time schedule in
effect it would be a good idea to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Sonja Wood
to talk about applying for colleges during social. Once you get the ball
rolling, you could work on asking around for letters of recommendation or
working on your personal statement for applications during this time as well.
If you use it to your advantage, it could limit the amount of tasks you have to
accomplish for the day.
2. Goal Setting: Set goals for yourself to reach for either
at the end of each day or the end of each week. Each time you accomplish an
assignment for a class, or finish studying for a big test, reward yourself. At
the end of a day, it could be just setting aside 30 minutes to an hour of alone
time to watch a movie or read a book (it’s the little things). As far as
college applications or scholarships go, you could reward yourself with
something big for each school you finish the application. At the end of a week,
you can reward yourself with something big like going out with friends or
whatever you choose.
3. Know when to say “No”: Senior year will
be full of football games, parties, and many other events. You’ll have to learn
to prioritize studying and applying for college over these events that, while
fun, can take up an enormous chunk of time if you let them. Plan well and say no
to the less important events so that you can say yes later.
