Prom isn’t
everyone’s thing. Sometimes there are other things that come up, like
obligations to siblings or prior plans that can’t be rescheduled. If you aren’t
able to make it to prom this year, here are some events that could be a fun alternative.
1. Bonny
Kate Fun Night- This is an annual event at the South Knoxville elementary
school. Bonny Kate describes the event as a “fun night for everyone.” The event
will be held at Bonny Kate Elementary from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The night will
include dinner, games, and fun times for the whole family. There are plenty of
activities for all ages, such as cakewalks, bouncy houses, and raffle prize
drawings.
2. The
Rossini Festival- The festival is held in downtown Knoxville on Gay Street, and
is hosted by the Knoxville Opera. “The
Rossini Festival is dedicated to celebrating the arts with a spectacular feast
of dance, music and opera from the Region’s best talent,” as said on the
website for the event. This is the 13th year for the
festival, and the approximate
attendance is 60,000 – 100,000 (dependent upon weather)
. There are things for all ages here, and
everyone can find something they like. There will be over 100 food and beverage
exhibits, several artisan exhibits, and live entertainment throughout the whole
day. The event is held from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and admission is free.
3. Dogwood Art De Tour- “The Dogwood Art De Tour is a two-day
event where local artists welcome the public into their actual studio space to
experience the working creative process as the artist demonstrates the making
of a work of art”, says the spokes person for Dogwood Arts. The event is held
on April 12th and 13th, lasts from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m., and admission is free. This event provides the public with the
opportunity to experience the artwork of East Tennessee and the people who
create it. There are several different venues available to visit, and each one
will have artwork for sale. For more information and the list of venues, visit http://www.dogwoodarts.com/dogwood-art-detours/.
