The Originals

Everyone has heard about the Vampire Diaries book series by L.J. Smith. It is focused on Elena Gilbert, a young high school student who falls in love with two vampire brothers, Stefan and Daman Salvatore. In 2009 Kevin Williamson created a television show based on these novels with the same name.  The Vampire Diaries television show did not completely follow the books, but the premiere received the highest ratings for a series premiere on the CW network. There are over hundreds of fans that have followed the show through all five seasons, and have fallen in love with not only the main characters but also the other supporting character. Some supporting characters received so much attention from fans that the producers created The Originals.

            In the middle of season two of the Vampire Diaries the Originals became a part of the plot. The Originals are the first vampires in the history of vampires. In the ancient times Esther was a great witch, and after a werewolf tragically murdered one of her sons so she decided to turn her husband, Michael, and her five children, Finn, Elijah, Niklaus, Rebekah, and Kol Mikaelson, into vampires.

“She called upon the sun for life and the ancient white oak tree, one of nature’s eternal object, for immortality. That night, my father offered us wine laced with blood… and then he drove his sword through our hearts.” Said Rebekah talking about Esther turning them into vampires.

 The Originals were apart of seasons two, three, and four. At the end of season four, Niklaus goes to New Orleans at the request of Katherine Peirce, Elena’s doppelgänger. Niklaus discovers that his former protégé Marcel is ruling with an iron fist. He also finds that Hayley is some how carrying his child and that the witches want to use her to help them overthrow Marcel. Afterwards Elijah shows up and somehow convinces Niklaus to stay and help the witches and his unborn child.

            The Originals focuses on Niklaus, Elijah, and Rebekah working to take back New Orleans from Marcel. The back-door pilot was aired on April 26, 2013, and was then adapted to become a complete spin off series. Then The Originals premiered on October 3, 2013 after the Vampire Diaries premiere. A week later on October 8, 2013 it was moved to 8 o’clock on Thursdays. The fans on the Vampire Diaries fell in love with the Mikaelson siblings so more than ninety percent of the fans follow the Originals.  

            The Original vampires were characters that no one could help but to fall in love with. They are more powerful, brutal, and have more history to them, which adds more suspense. There are so many different dynamics in the originals than in the Vampire Diaries. The Originals is a spin-off, but other than some of the characters they are two completely different show. The Vampire Diaries focus more on the love triangle with Elena, Stefan, and Daman. The Originals focuses on more of a family aspect.  Both shows are phenomenal though in their own way.
