Late 2007, Rob Zombie released a remake
of one of the greatest horror films of all time into theaters. Zombie recreated
the classic flick Halloween and put
his own twist on it. The original film debuted in 1978 from director John
Carpenter, released 6 days before Halloween, just in time to scare audiences
from going trick or treating.
The original film is about a masked
serial killer, Michael Myers, who escapes from a psych hospital to return to
his hometown on Halloween, where he stalks a babysitter to murder. The killer
was in the hospital for murdering his sister on Halloween when he was 6 years
old. When he returns to his hometown, his doctor Dr. Loomis tries to warn the
town. Loomis tries to catch him before he murders teen babysitter, Laurie
Strode. When Strode discovers she is being stalked she tries to save the
children she is babysitting before she saves herself.
In Zombie’s remake the story differs
greatly from the original by many aspects. The remake depicts Myers as a child
from an abusive home when in the original; Myers was from a good home, which
made his killing so heinous. The remake adds more sexual content, drugs and
foul language when none of that is present in the original.
The original film is much more scary
than the remake because of the music, plot and atmosphere. This movie is of
course a great film if you’re looking to be scared this Halloween.
