South-Doyle
students are getting a little something extra for EOCs this year. In an effort
to raise the overall grades, incentives were offered to students. Students who
stay after school are given pizza and snacks. Every morning gift cards are
given to successful students. iPads will be given to top four students who show
the most growth. For Freshman Fun Day, tickets
can be earned by getting advanced on Study Island sessions and various other
academic means. These tickets will be used to get snacks participate in events.
A game truck will be there, letting kids take turns competing against their
friends in racing games and Call of Duty. The impact on students has been
noticeable. Effort and attention to detail when studying online has led to an
overall increase in the students projected grades. Having something to work
towards can really motivate people to do the best they can. Behavior problems
have also been reduced. Kids who didn’t think they had a chance saw the incentives
as a way to get back on track. With the success of the EOC incentives, there is
a strong chance the program will be repeated next year.
