The South Doyle Rugby Club played
McMinn and Bearden High School at the conference tournament. During the regular
season, South-Doyle only lost three games. They lost to Charlotte Catholic,
Westerville, and Penn. High. In their tournament last weekend, the McMinn
players were talking bad about our team, saying things like, “South-Doyle
doesn’t have any athletes. You guys got lucky the last two times. Your only
asset is your coach.” Sophomore Jacob Dunn disagrees by saying, “In my opinion
it is the best sport at this school and is a great release after school.” These
competitive comments and enthusiasm for the game motivated them to try harder and
win more. Clearly, it worked because they beat McMinn 65-10 and Bearden 40-17.
Like almost all other sports, it
takes preparation, a frame of mind, and the feeling of adrenaline. Junior
Charlie Holman said he usually prepares for games and tournaments by, “…watching
film and listening to music that helps me focus.” Holman also stated, “(The) adrenaline
rush is crazy. You can get hit and the adrenaline is so high that you don’t
feel a thing.”
This Saturday at 4 the team will be
playing in the state championships at Tennessee Rugby Park if you would like to
participate in the adrenaline rush.
