South Doyle headed
into the scrimmage against Central high school with spirits not set as high as
usual, but that did not stop the team from rising above. By the middle of the
first quarter, the audience looking on was tense as the teams were tied seven
to seven. There were six minutes to go when the stands were full of parents and
students charged with excitement as South Doyle began to lead in the game.
South Doyle trooped on adding touchdown to touchdown to the scoreboard.
“We
weren’t as excited as we needed to be (for scrimmage) and that showed us that
we can’t just walk out here and expect to start winning. We have to come here
ready to play because anybody can come out here,” said sophomore Christian
Nave. “You know nobody’s unstoppable, but we just have to know we’re not
either. We got to come out here ready to play and do what we’re capable of
doing.”
That’s
exactly what South Doyle did too. They dominated the field with new tactics and
old as teammates cheered from the sidelines. Coach Duncan has proved just how
hard he has pushed this team from the great season we had last year. They have
improved in ways that were clearly shown during this scrimmage. All the while
Principal Tim Berry stood watching the field as South Doyle tore up their home
turf with pride. No team has more support from a principal than South Doyle.
With
the support of the crowd South Doyle came out on top against Central with a
final score of 27-7.
